Getting Started
This guide gets you from opening the site to understanding what the town is doing.
1. Open the town
Go to:
https://virtual-town.com
The page connects to the backend over WebSocket. When connected, the status indicator shows live residents.
2. Watch the first minute
Residents may:
- walk toward a location,
- speak in a map bubble,
- appear in Town Activity,
- show a reasoning trace in Agent Reasoning.
The first few events are intentionally lightweight so the town feels alive quickly without spending unnecessary AI tokens.
3. Switch language
Use the language button:
ENmeans the interface is currently Chinese and can switch to English.中文means the interface is currently English and can switch to Chinese.
New NPC speech follows the selected language. Old messages in the feed remain in the language originally spoken.
4. Talk to a resident
Open the Chat tab or Talk to a Resident panel:
- Choose a resident.
- Type a message.
- Press Send.
Example:
Alice, can you tell everyone to gather at the fountain?
The selected resident replies, stores the interaction as memory, and may turn the request into a task.
5. Read the panels

- Agent Reasoning: why an action or speech event appeared.
- Residents: who is awake, where they are, and what they are doing.
- Chat: direct visitor-to-resident conversation.
